Campervanning 101

If you’re new to the campervan scene, you might be wondering what the etiquette is and how to survive life on the road for an extended amount of time. Fear not, we’re seasoned campers, check out this post for our top tips to get you on the road and on the way to freedom.

Minimalism

Unless you invest in a huge RV style motor, campervans aren’t the most spacious of vehicles. Don’t worry, that’s all part of the charm. What it does mean is that it is important to embrace the minimalist lifestyle. While you may be used to packing ten pairs of socks for a three-day trip, van life will teach you to take the bare necessities for your travels.

Storage

Make use of the under seat and over head storage in your camper. Be savvy with how you pack and store things to make the most of your space. Food should be stored in sealed containers, if you don’t do this you will have more friends than you bargained for, in the form of small furry things with long tails. You get the idea.

Cooking

Try to cook outside of the van as much as you can. If you’re making a curry, the smell will stick to your curtains and cushions for months to come. Believe us, we know. If the weather is good, take your culinary skills outside and you’ll sleep better too with some fresh are inside you and without the lingering scent of chicken tikka masala. However, if you’re cooking something less ‘potent’ our vans our fitted with stoves with the option of a microwave!

Budgeting

If you’re on the road for an extended amount of time, budgeting is key. Limited funds make it all the more important that you don’t splash out on fancy dinners three times a week. Don’t scrimp on campsites though, you will appreciate a hot shower ten times more than you would a three course Sunday roast – honestly!

Have fun

The single most important thing is to enjoy yourself! Have fun and enjoy the freedom that campervanning brings.

We hope that helps you on your way to #vanlife! If you’re on the hunt for a campervan in Glasgow, get in touch to see how we can help.
