Choosing a place to camp - a guide
If you are heading out in your camper and this is all new to you, you may be wondering how to find a spot to camp in. We know it can be confusing so here is our guide to choosing a safe place to camp…
Before we get stuck in, make sure you have made a list of everything you need for your trip away, from crockery to changes of clothes and everything else in between, get planning, get packing and then enjoy the trip.
Check it is legal
Make sure that where you are planning to stay is legal and permitted. You don’t want to be staying overnight illegally anywhere and facing prosecution or fines. You can camp anywhere in Scotland but that is not the case for the rest of the UK so make sure you do your research if a wild style camp is on the cards for you.
What amenities do you want or need?
If you are the sort of person that likes their home comforts, think about what you would like on the site or in the van. You might be happy attaching a shower to the back of the van or you might prefer a block on site and a little more privacy…
Do you need to book in advance?
If you are staying on a site, check whether or not you need to book in advance and see if you want an electric hookup. This summer, places are even busier than normal so this is one worth researching and checking out in advance.
Keep it off social media
This might sound strange but do not share your location in real time on social media. If you want to share where you have stayed or camped, wait until a few days after you have left to keep yourself safe.
Let your friends and family know where you are staying
Having said that, let friends and family know where you are calling home for the night or maybe share your location with them using the pin drop feature on your smartphone.
We hope those tips help and if you are planning an adventure, come and find a used converted camper in Glasgow from the team at Your Camper.
