Read on for our tips and tricks, hints and hacks for cooking in a campervan…

Stocking up

Before you pitch up on a campsite, plan what you will be feasting on and head to a larger supermarket for the essentials (non-perishables) and then try to find a farmers market to get fresh eggs, meat and veg when you’re closer to your destination.

Keep it simple

Try not to over-complicate the food you will be eating. A full English breakfast? Maybe not. But a one pot breakfast or a bacon roll? Good plan. Risotto or chilli are great meals to cook that require little effort and ingredients, but if you are cooking inside the campervan, stay away from strong smelling food like curry or fish because, be warned, it will linger in the curtains for days on end.

Campsite etiquette

If you have spare food before you leave the campsite (that you know will otherwise go to waste) it is always a nice idea to check in with your neighbours to see if they can make use of the food. Good karma and spreading some campsite positivity while reducing waste, what’s not to love?

Where to cook

If you can cook outside of your campervan, we would absolutely cook outside of the campervan. Whether there is a communal kitchen on the campsite you can use, or a BBQ pit that’s up for grabs, it’s a great way to meet new people and to get out and explore. Plus, see our earlier point about the lingering food smells.
