Isle of Skye
A mythical island nestled on the west coast of Scotland; the Isle of Skye is amongst our top places to visit in Scotland. Here are our top things to see and do during your time on Skye.
It’s quite the journey but thanks to the freedom camping in Scotland, you can break the trip up over a couple of days if needs be and we promise you, it is worth the extra hours on the road when you see just what the Isle of Skye has to offer.
Getting to the Isle of Skye
Before we dive into the wonders of Skye, there are two ways you can get to the island. The first is by driving over the bridge found on the A87 to Uig. The bridge is free to cross over and takes you from Klye of Lochalsh to Klyeakin on Skye. The alternative route is the A830 from Fort William to Mallaig, then you can catch the ferry over to the island. We recommend booking the ferry in advance unless you have a lot of time to kill.
The Fairy Glenn
One of the many magical destinations on Skye, The Fairy Glenn is home of the fairies and looks like a miniature ruin. If you can visit on a misty morning, you’ll miss the crowds and feel an extra spark of magic.
The Old Man of Storr
Do not be deceived by the path leading to The Old Man of Storr as the walk is lengthy. However, the views when you get to the top are astounding. It’s no wonder Storr is the most famous hike on Skye, with jagged rocks standing tall and views looking out over the island.
Portree Village
This is not the most obvious of destinations on the island but it’s a quaint place to visit and great for stocking up on supplies. Part of Skye’s charm is the lack of shops, petrol stations and the likes thereof but it does mean you have to plan and grab every food and fuel opportunity with both hands.
That’s our round up of The Isle of Skye and it’s a place we love to visit. If you are looking for your first or next campervan in Scotland, visit our showroom in Glasgow and explore our range of used and nearly new campervans.
