Reality of Van Life

At Your Camper, it will come as no surprise that we are huge advocates of van life. We love the freedom, the excitement and the exploring, but there are also a few things that the bloggers and your Instagram feed doesn’t tell you. Here is the reality of van life.

Preparation

There is more to campervanning than just hopping in the van and taking to the road. Although it can be appealing and feel like an adventure, it is important to make sure you’re stocked up on food and fuel and have some sort of a basic plan to get you going. No one wants to be stuck in the middle of nowhere without supplies. Trust us. We are speaking from experience.

Sacrifices

There are some sacrifices you will have to make if you want to commit to the van life. We aren’t talking about big sacrifices, just things like an extensive wardrobe and freshly styled hair every day. You will learn to appreciate different things and you will love the van life in no time.

Safety

Making sure you are safe in the van is a key priority. Do your research on where you are staying and make sure you keep the van locked when you go to sleep. While theft isn’t common in the campervanning community, it is worth keeping an eye on your belongings and avoiding unsafe places.

Challenges

As with any road trip, they rarely come without their tests and challenges. Vehicle maintenance, freak weather and hygiene are just some of the challenges you may come up against. But these are easily solved, and it is just something to keep in mind.

Experiences

Despite all of this, the experiences are more than worth it. You will find a new lease of life and while Instagram only shows the best bits of the journey, we love the entire ride.
