Wild swimming guide
If you have seen and heard wild swimming mentioned but you’re not sure what it is, here is everything you need to know. Grab your wetsuit, a wooly hat and prepare to dip.
What is it?
Wild swimming is essentially swimming in a natural body of water. That could be a lake, the sea, a river, any water that is naturally occurring. It is a great way to explore, get to know the area, and definitely to feel at one with nature, if that is your thing!
It is important to remember that the water is going to be cold, even in the height of summer, so do your research beforehand and make sure you are prepared for the elements.
Where can you swim?
There are plenty of local groups online you can check out to find a swim spot, but just make sure that it is safe and legal to do so, that would be the last thing you want, to get caught in the water somewhere you shouldn’t be! There is quite the wild swimming community so check it out and get involved.
What do you need to know?
Make sure you have a little bit of gear and absolutely all the idea. Do your research and make sure you are well-prepared for the elements and the experience. We would also say don’t go alone, just in case you do get into a spot of bother and need assistance.
What are the benefits?
Regular exposure to cold water is known to boost the immune system, and when you go for a swim, you will get the most incredible endorphin rush too. Check out Wim Hoff if you want to learn more about the benefits of cold exposure.
That’s our round up and if you need a van to take you from lake to lake and right to the edge of the sea, come and get in touch with us at Your Camper, for camper conversions in Glasgow.
