Campervan Road Trips Two Hours From Glasgow

Glasgow is the beating heart of Scotland, and a great starting point to discover some scenic road trips in your VW campervan. Here are just a few of them:

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park

Driving time - 50 minutes from Glasgow

If you’re looking to escape the intensity of urban living and soak up some tranquility, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs are the closest national park to Glasgow where you can truly appreciate the stunning outdoors. The lake is the second largest in Britain, and is surrounded by sky high hills and vegetation, as well as some stunning waterfalls dotted around.

Milarrochy Bay

Driving time - less than one hour from Glasgow

This hidden gem can be found near the village of Blamaha on Loch Lomond's beach. The bay itself is quite popular on hot summer days, and there is a caravan and camping site nearby that’ll have you waking up to a gorgeous view of the lake.

Loch Tay

Driving time - 1hr 40 from Glasgow

Located in Perthshire, Loch Tay neighbours The Trossachs National Park and the Cairngorms. The main driving route to take is on the North shore and from here you can see dramatic summits such as Beinn Bhreac. One place to definitely take a look at on your road trip through here is the falls of Dochart, located at the Western end of the Loch in the town of Killin.

Rest and be thankful

Driving time - approximately 1 hour from Glasgow

Rest and be thankful is one of Scotland's most famous scenic places, with views stretching for miles. You're 245 metres above sea level, and the gorgeous Arrochar Alps can be seen all around you. For many years, this road link to Rest and be thankful has been plagued by numerous road closures caused by occasional landslides. So, before you go, check the Traffic Scotland website to see if there are any road closures or other restrictions.

Glencoe

Driving time - 2 hours from Glasgow

Glencoe, located in western Scotland, is well-known for its appearances in films such as Skyfall and Harry Potter. Ice glaciers and volcanic eruptions sculpted the deep valley and high mountains centuries ago. Glen Coe's road leads you right through the centre of an ancient volcano via the Glen Coe Geotrail.  If you want to take a break from driving, the Glencoe Mountain Resort also offers skiing, snowboarding, and mountain biking.

Kilchurn Castle

Driving time - approximately 2 hours from Glasgow

Kilchurch Castle, on the shores of Loch Awe, is a ruined fortress that dates back to the mid-1400s. It's a must-see for any history enthusiast, and admission is free. The castle's magnificent location at the point of Loch Awe, with views of Ben Cruachan's top, makes it one of Scotland's most photographed castles.
