VW T6.1 Campervan Review
The Volkswagen T6.1 Transporter was launched in 2019 to replace the existing T6. The main differences include a reshaped front bumper and narrower headlights, upgraded alloy wheels, and a digital dashboard on the interior.
But, one of the biggest changes has been the switch to electromechanical steering. This has meant the safety tech onboard has drastically improved, with the Transporter equipped with the latest generation of driver assistance systems, including Lane Keeping Assist and Cross Wind Assist.
Wheelbases & Roof Heights
The T6.1 Transporter comes in short and long wheelbase variants and standard, medium and ed spec roof heights.

Engines, Performance & Drive
The T6.1 van is available in a range of 2.0-litre engines. You can choose from 89bhp, 108bhp or 148bhp versions or a twin-turbocharged version that produces 196bhp.
Both the 89bhp TDI 90 and 108bhp TDI 110 come with a five-speed manual gearbox, while the 148bhp TDI 150 comes with a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, along with the option of 4Motion four-wheel drive.
Introducing the electromechanical steering to the new T6.1 has really affected how the van drives. The previous T6 Transporter felt as though it didn’t grip very well around corners, whereas this new technology has made the Transporter feel more precise and stable when driving and manoeuvring.
All the T6.1 Transporter engines also comply with the Euro-6d-TEMP-EVAP emissions standard.
